John Bosco’s Ministry Begins

John Bosco's Ministry Begins

On February 2006, John was got a government job as a health worker. He was posted to work in the hospital by the government of Uganda “while treating patients, the first sign came. While in the hospital serving, the John Bosco heard the porter shrieking at a poor young boy who had sneaked into the hospital to get warm.  “Here, call the boy back,” cried John Bosco, “he’s my friend!”  The boy came over to John Bosco.

John Bosco asked, “What is your Name?”

“Asiimwe the boy answered.

“How old are you Asiimwe?”

“Sixteen,” answered the boy.

“Can you lead us in prayers?”

“No.”

“What do you do?”

“I’m just on street in Gabbage places,” he responded, head lowered.

“Your mother and father…”John Bosco continued.

“I’m alone,” the boy responded sadly.

“Can you whistle?”John Bosco broke in.

“Of course I can whistle!” exclaimed Asiimwe laughing.

And that friendship, struck up on the spur of the moment, began JohnBosco’s worldwide ministry to bring young people to God.  He told Asiimwe to stay for prayers.

After prayers John Bosco told the boy, “Next Saturday, bring your friends here, and we’ll spend the day together.”

The next Saturday, tuelve ragged boys, looking badly in need of a meal and warm clothing, came to John Bosco. They were certainly in very dire spiritual need.  And their number multiplied in a few weeks, so that caring for them soon came to be a major problem.

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from who need your help Isaiah 58:7
